REAL WEDDINGS: John and Lynelle’s wedding voted by Wellspring as the most unusual wedding of 2011
“Let me get this right. You want a wedding for sixty guests, a venue with a sea view and enough space for two marquees, a lounge – and a hidden Cuban Bar. You want your flowers in garden planters, not vases and guests seated on hay bales for the ceremony?” – I asked, repeating the brief from Lynelle and John, who live in London and were returning to KZN for their wedding.
The perfect venue turned out to be an estate, on the South Coast, with magnificent sea views and long open patio, next to a rock pool. Ideal for the reception/lounge/Cuban Bar area while the tropical garden yielded space for the ceremony marquee.

The wedding began with cocktail party in the lounge, giving friends and family an opportunity to meet and greet Lynellle and John who have been living inLondon for several years. After an hour, Lynelle slipped away to change into her wedding gown while guests made their way to the ceremony marquee and settled themselves on fleece covered hay bales. An unusual twig bridal arch added to the rustic ambience.
Dinner was served in the main marquee where several giant arrangements and growing palms in large planters created a sophisticated atmosphere. A photo booth where the photographer, Hannie du Plessis hannie.fisheye@gmail.com supplied comical props kept guests amused while others queued for the buffet. The Cuban Bar, hidden behind black drapes was the surprise element after dinner, when opened for dancing and serious, all night partying. A Cuban flag, rustic wooden bar, hessian sacks, tatty chairs and hay bales combined to resemble dodgy bar in downtown Havannah. The aroma of Cuban cigars and coffee added to the atmosphere. Pictures below show Lynelle’s decor (three pictures taken by us, not a professional photographer, as you can see).

REAL WEDDINGS: Liberator and Abby’s wedding voted by Abby’s mom at The Wedding Of The Year
At Wellspring Wedding Planners we create whatever the bride wants. Our bride, Abby, wanted sugar and spice and all things in candy bright colours with bling in abundance. Her adoring groom, Liberator’s gift to his bride was her dream wedding – lots of delicious things to eat and a confection of a thousand cerise and orange roses that hung in bunches from the ceiling and blooming out of vases dripping crystal beads. The day began with her arrival in an eight meter long, white stretch limo and gold beribboned Merc to transport her retinue of seven glamorous bridesmaids. Abby looked elegant in a beaded bodice and ruffled skirt design, offset by a stylish hat – very retro.
The wedding feast was one to remember – a three course meal including dessert, three wedding cakes of white chocolate mousse, stacked upon pyramids of scrumptious mousse cakelets and a chocolate fountain that gushed melted chocolate into which guests dipped marshmallows. But that’s not all! A candy buffet of glittering glass jars filled with a variety of sweeties, was on offer for guests scoop their favourites into net baggies. The childrens’ tables had edible centre pieces and little toys that kept them occupied during the speeches which were punctuated by their laughter as they happily ricocheted off the walls from sugar overload). Three pictures below taken by us, not by a professional photographer (as you can see!).

The bridesmaids, in creations of cerise and orange blended beautifully with the candy theme. Even the guests and our team entered into the spirit by wearing shades of pink and orange. The bride was over the moon and her mom declared it the Wedding Of The Year.
REAL WEDDINGS: Beach Weddings
Many couples dream of getting married in Kzn, because they want beach weddings and we gladly assist them. However, we always recommend having a Plan B in case inclement weather drives you and your guests under cover. The south coast has lots of reasonably priced venues close to the beach. Here are just three of the many beach ceremonies we have planned.
